We used the last of our 2022 tomatoes, which we’d wrapped loosely in newspaper and stored in the garage three months ago. And I finally ground up the hot peppers I’d been drying in the breezeway, though it wasn’t until my nose and hands began to burn that I thought to put on a mask and latex gloves. By the way, milk really does help this kind of burn, since it reduces the effects of the capsaicin.

Outside, our yo-yo weather continues, with a low of minus ten and a high of sixty. At this time of the year, the landscape may be frosty. Or frozen. Or foggy. Or some other kind of fabulous.
All we have to do is dress appropriately and show up.
